In this multi-disciplinary project, designers Wendy Chua, Xin Xiaochang and Yuki Mitsuyasu worked with hardware shop Hup Yick Engineering Works to create a series of wearable accessories from spare car parts. This paved the way for the book “The Machinist and the Social Value of Craft”, which documented their research that stemmed from stories of the last auto-part machinist in Jalan Besar, Mr. Yee Chin Hoon. By addressing common perceptions, the designers hope to bring light to the true value of craft.
